PEA Meeting Minutes

October 18, 2010   7pm Monday

Place:  Fatima room from now on

Pray the Rosary:  outdoors in front of the Our Lady of Grace statue

Present: Steve Green, Grace Schmidlin,  Barb Smith, Jeanine Schmolt, Pat Tekulve

Quick takes:

New padding and material for kneelers in the chapel:  Steve Green reported that one is complete (and very thick) and the others are in process.

FYI: Funeral on Thursdays of exposition:  Dave Auxier will repose and Barb Wasserman will expose. Barb will call Pat if she needs further assistance.

Coordinator’s report:  Drops: 13       Adds:  4   Changes:  10   Total # of Adorers:  378

[Grace and Sally need updated copies of each Hourly Chart if you haven’t  submitted already.]

We received  7 new potential adorers  from the Stewardship Sign up. Grace Schmidlin will call.

Sally will contact Jayne Simms in the parish office to find out how we can access  her list of adorers.  Then we can compare our list of adorers  with her list for accuracy.

Tracking sheets:  How are things going?  Some captains struggle to get the tracking sheets done.  A possible new sign in sheet was introduced by Barb Smith that would facilitate ease of tracking.  She will fine tune according to suggestions from the core team and resubmit for a final decision at our meeting in November.

Please know that the role of captain is to keep in touch with adorers especially as needs are identified when tracking.  If your responsibilities are so full and you can’t do this , let your DL know.

Division Leaders’ reports:

Morning:  Pat Tekulve (8am captain needed.)  Adorer on Saturday isn’t coming.  Will find out.

Afternoon:  Jeanine Schmolt   There was no one in the chapel at 1pm on Monday (tabernacle adoration). Please check in with each other to make sure the hour is covered.  Mary Ann Faust is ill but has requested  to stay as a committed adorer.

Evening:  Barb Smith  All captains turned in their tracking sheets. (8 drops were identified and 8 didn’t respond). Barb helped a couple of captains with their tracking for this month.  Suggestion is to track for a few minutes every week which will keep you current.

Midnight:  Steve Green .  Some captains are not tracking. We need everyone so our count is accurate.

Stepping down:  Steve let us know that he must step down from being a DL due to the fact that he has returned to working full time recently and has many other commitments.

Need a Midnight Division Leader:  If there is anyone who would be interested/feels called to join our core team as the Midnight Division leader or if you would know of anyone, call or email Sally Schroder for a job description.  Steve would be happy to meet with you. We know that, through the work of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration, our names will be written on Jesus’ Sacred Heart. Prayerfully consider joining us. Meanwhile, call Grace with changes.

Please remember Larry Benassi (3am) in your prayers. He is experiencing major illness.

Steve will drop adoration on Mondays at 4am.

Revisiting the role of the coordinators:  Our coordinators need to be focusing on the big picture, how to keep our present adorers and how to recruit new ones.  As a result, our DLs will continue as usual, keeping a list of adds, drops, and changes for their divisions , emailing them to Jayne Simms, and then report to the coordinators at our monthly meeting.  The step of informing the coordinators each time a change is made is taken out. Barb Smith has agreed to revise the Adorer list on our PEA website for the Evening and Midnight divisions and will be trained by Pat Tekulve. Thank you!

Being pro active:  There are many drops this month. Most are due to circumstances beyond our control. However, some adorers may have been willing/able to change their hour to one more workable with our guidance and encouragement.  We should all ask ourselves if  we have done  all in our power to facilitate the adorer remaining an adorer.

Every person who adores the Blessed Sacrament for one hour is prayer power for our families, our parish, souls are saved, and, most importantly, Our Lord is adored as he deserves.

Suggestion:  Place a periodic question on the sign in table titled:   Reminders for Adorers:  Do you have an Hourly Chart (with names and phone numbers of all adoring at your hour throughout the week?) If not, call your captain for one.) Have you met the person who adores  at the same time as you? Can you cover for each other if one of you will not be there?  Ask Linda Reekers if she will help us with the tent cards.

Suggestions for Captains

  • Come to your hour on a different day and introduce yourselves on the hour.
  • Meet a new adorer after Sunday Mass.
  • Plan an adorer meeting. Ask for ideas/suggestions.

Proactive Ideas from our Captains/Adorers   A new feature of our Minutes  each month.  As a result of one captain’s suggestion of a check off system for the sign in book, one DL made up a new way to sign in by providing the names at each hour. It will be fine tuned and reviewed at our November meeting.

Expanding exposition:  One adorer asked us to consider expanding the hours of exposition.  She said that hours will fill if we have exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.  What is God’s will in this matter?  A given: There needs to be someone who is regular and strong to expose and repose at the new time.

Suggestions: Extend every Friday until noon? (Comments: The 7am hour struggles with coverage.)    Grace and Sally will check the evenings for well padded hours.

Getting the word out:  Revisiting the idea of tee shirts made with a small monstrance and the words “Ask me about Adoration.” Grace reports that tee shirts would be $10.00 . Idea not well taken.                                                                                                                                                            Suggestion:  We need to constantly invite friends, etc. to consider adoring for a committed hour.

Oral Prayer for November/December/ January  Change the first Thursday of November. Suggestions:   St. Michael Prayer/  Petitions / Act of Consecration for the United States?  Other suggestions welcome.

Eucharistic Adoration for the Sanctification of Priests and Spiritual Maternity pdf file: Email to Barb, Pat, and Steve. If anyone else is interested , email Sally and she can send via email to you.  (Awesome doc.)

Announcements/Reminders:                                                                                                                                DLs.  Upcoming are:  All Saints Day, Nov. 1, is not a holy day of obligation.  December 8 (Immaculate Conception) is a holy day of obligation.

The International Pilgrim Virgin Statue is scheduled to displayed in IHM’s church on Wednesday, November 10. Look for details in the bulletin.

Elijah Cup:  Personal touch needed!  Deacon Bill Mullaney has asked the PEA ministry’s adorers to give him a call to sign up yourself/family for the Elijah cup starting in December. You receive the cup at Sunday Mass.  The commitment is to pray for a few minutes or more each day for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Please call or email today.
