PEA Meeting Minutes
February 15, 2010
Prayer: Rosary at 7 P.M.
Place: Sally Schroder's home
Present: Grace Schmidlin, Pat Tekulve, Sally Schroder, Steve Green
January Minutes: Approved (with the fixing of two typos)
Old Business
2/14/10 Eucharistic Procession after the 6 P.M. Mass Feedback: There was general consensus that Eucharistic processions are the living out of our parish Mission Statement. Due to miscommunication, the procession on Valentine's Day did not include the congregation. We hope that a protocol will be put into place so that everyone knows their part. It was suggested to have a Eucharistic procession after every Mass once a year, including the Spanish Mass. Dave Auxier, as our liaison, will present this request to Father Tom Kreidler. It was also suggested that we have a Eucharistic procession when we hold our annual Rosary Rally to honor Our Lady of Fatima in October.
Updated Organizational Chart: The revised chart will be sent to our DLs via email attachment. For those who do not use email, a folder will be placed in the PEA closet in the Fatima Room so that captains can pick up a hard copy. DLs will call the captains who do not have email to let them know. Thanks to Steve Green for revising our chart.
Weather related/emergency situations: Getting the information out. We have submitted two brief bulletin pieces regarding procedures and expectations for our adorers in adverse conditions. Neither has made the bulletin. We are aware that there is much information submitted and that Lisa Taylor does everything in her power to accommodate us. Since 300 + committed adorers are being affected as well as visitors, we hope that next year this information does get in.
Blank note cards with the lovely picture of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the front will be used for Thank you/ Get Well notes for our adorers and have been placed in the PEA closet in the Fatima Room on the second shelf. Please be aware that just a few words to let a sick adorer know he/she is being thought of is part of our mission of reaching out to care for and keep our adorers when they return to health. A thank you note to a long time adorer who must stop is a courtesy.
Hourly Charts Update: Roxanne Barnes designed a new “Adorers” link on our PEA pages online. It will help everyone in the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration ministry. When you go to the Contacts page on PEA’s pages and click on “Adorers,” in a snapshot, you can see who is adoring with you as well as before and after you. This is helpful for many reasons, especially when looking for a sub. or if , in the rare case, that no one shows up for exposition. No phone numbers are included on the website; however a print copy of the hourly charts will be on the shelf under the sign-in binder.
New Business:
Coordinator's Report Clarification: The morning and early evening adoration hours are often the times when extra Masses are celebrated for a Holy Day/ Ash Wednesday/ the Sacrament of Confirmation, etc. Adoration is canceled at these times. An exception is when a Funeral Mass is celebrated (as this is not a parish-wide Mass) UNLESS it is during exposition. Then Our Lord is reposed while the Mass is being celebrated. Adorers may come as usual to adore Him in the tabernacle. When we have speakers during Lent, a Parish Mission, etc. our adorers continue to adore throughout these events. We thank all who are affected for their flexibility and encourage them to spend their hour at another time.
After January 25, 2010
New adorers: 2 Changes: 1 Drops: 3 Total # of Adorers: 312 Needs: about 200
Need for captains: Hours of midnight and 8 A.M. We are looking for people who are comfortable just picking up the phone (or emailing if that is the preferred mode) and checking in with our adorers, especially when a discrepancy is noted on the sign-in sheets. These connections are special, and the Lord will bless you for being his voice of care.
Division Leaders' Reports:
Morning: DL Pat Tekulve said that Missy Feldkamp has had to step down from her 8 P.M. captainship. If anyone is interested, let her know. Add Janet Mideli to the 6 A.M. hour. Bruce Holaday is no longer adoring.
Afternoon: DL Jeanine Schmolt welcomes Linda Gauggel our new 5 P.M. captain! We now have a committed adorer for the 3 P.M. hour on Friday. It would be helpful to have at least one more adorer.
Evening: DL Joy Harbert reported that all is well. Thanks to Joan Madeja for her flexibility as the captain of the 7 P.M. hour in contacting her adorers for unusual situations.
Midnight: DL Steve Green reported that the midnight hour is in need of a captain. Please call Steve if you are interested. It requires a person who is comfortable communicating and is conscientious.
PEA Invitation Weekend to invite all parishioners to become committed adorers: Missionary Priest of the Blessed Sacrament, Father Victor Warkulwiz is coming June 5-6. We will spend the next several meetings preparing for his arrival.
New Oral Prayer will include verses from Joel 2:12-13, intercessions including the people of Haiti, our country's leaders, etc., and the song “Hosea” which can either be sung or recited. Aspirations will end our Prayer.
Change date: Thursday, February 25. With commitment and desire to move adoration of the Blessed Sacrament forward at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, to keep us alive in faith and numbers, we pray that many more people will come to believe that Jesus is Truly Present through both tabernacle adoration and the visual exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
Ongoing problems with few people able to lift the 12-lb. monstrance to place on top of the tabernacle on a regular basis: also desire that our current and future priests at Immaculate Heart of Mary can easily lift and carry a monstrance for some time especially in Eucharistic processions. Father Tom Kreidler received a letter dated 2/17/10 from PEA leaders to make him aware of the problems the wooden monstrance has caused and the difficulty trying to find folks who can lift it up and onto the top of the tabernacle. It was stated that some of our people exposing and reposing probably shouldn't be lifting. We mentioned that many monstrances are online, new and used. There are many lightweight monstrances out there. Another suggestion was to clean up/repair the monstrance that preceded the wooden one and use it until a more permanent solution is found.
More Exposition: Tabled until we see how the June 2010 sign-up goes. Ideas we will keep in mind are: Add hours during the morning and evening hours when we have many adorers; Rotate exposition so that faithful adorers can have the joy of exposition once in a while; Expand hours to begin Wednesday after noon Mass ...after we have 'Invitation Sunday' and many new adorers.
We have discerned through prayer that it is time to renew our Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Patroness of our parish. Grace Schmidlin will talk to Dave Auxier when the timing is right. IHM parish consecrated in October, 2000 and in September of 2004. A suggestion was to do this at all Sunday Masses so that everyone is aware. There is a beautiful consecration prayer that speaks to families, parish families, extended families, etc. in the Enthronement ceremonial booklet.
Fasting on Wednesdays continues. All are asked to consider fasting in some way on Wednesdays with the intention that many new adorers will join PEA in June. We will continue to pray the Sacred Heart Novena as well. Copies for the taking are on the small table in the chapel or in the far corner of the pamphlet area.
Next meeting: Tuesday, March 16 at 1:00 pm
New information since our meeting: Nancy Goebel, our school co-principal, has reserved Wednesday, November 10, for the veneration of the International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima with a talk by Mr. Carl Malburg. Our Lady's statue will then go to our church where all parishioners can join us.
