PEA Meeting Minutes   April 20, 2010 (Tuesday afternoon)

Prayed the Rosary at 1:00pm in front of the outdoor Marian statue.

Place: Lourdes room

Present:  Steve Green, Pat Tekulve, Sally Schroder, Jeanine Schmolt, Grace Schmidlin, Joy Harbert

Old Business:

Information from meetings with Dave Auxier and Sally Schroder in mid-April (Parentheses indicate Sally's comment)

l        Need for better communication in general, more meeting time.

l        (Importance of the Holy Spirit).

l        A light trained on the Sacred Heart crewel picture? The crucifix isn't lit up. Why the picture? (Draws our attention to his Heart of Love, inspires all of us to be more loving.)  Embellishments for Christmas, Easter, special feast days:  Must be careful to observe fire codes.  Dave is considering plants/wooden candlesticks/ other ideas.

l        Chapel

Upkeep: Kneelers-Steve Green has volunteered to cover the soiled kneelers.  Dave has ordered new padding and already has the new fabric.  The rug will be cleaned when the entire church's carpeting is cleaned. It appears that the chapel carpet will probably be able to last another couple of years before being replaced.

Candleholders:  Discussion around getting candlesticks just for chapel use as Christmas and Easter displays use all of the candleholders. Talked about getting ones identical to the existing ones that are heavy to lift.  Keeping in mind that everything needs to be looked at with an eye to being easy to lift and carry... Right now, two cherry tables are being carried to the chapel from the Gathering Space and brass candlesticks are placed on them.  Brother Edward has been told to leave these in the chapel when he reposes as they are heavy. Steve Green has been carrying them but is experiencing some pain recently.  We need a solution. Sally gave Dave the following web address:  rivercityscenic.com  Don Holbrook owns the company and has the ability to make professional, lightweight items and is willing to donate some of his work as a gift to the parish.

l        Eucharistic procession on Valentine's Day:  Dave was not aware that the procession did not include our parishioners.

l        Monstrance issue:  There is an understanding of the 'damage' factor regarding lifting heavy objects, especially the monstrance, which is carried as one steps up the stepstool. Balance issues as well as the 'stretch' to place it on top of the tabernacle add to wear and tear on a body. Dave mentioned that the Holy Spirit dome and the wooden stool are also heavy and the 'bending down' to pick them up have an effect also.  Father Tom Kreidler and Dave are  brainstorming/problem solving how to make the monstrance lighter/easier to manage as well as the other objects. (Meanwhile, the Father's team has been asked if two strong men would be available during the summer to expose the Blessed Sacrament on Thursdays after the 8:15 am Mass.  No one has responded as of this writing.)

l        Parish consecration:  Father Tom agreed in an earlier meeting with Sally and Grace that our parish could renew our Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  PEA suggested praying a Consecration Prayer together at every Mass on a weekend in the fall so all are aware.  Dave listed the events going on in each month, a lot, and suggested an alternative:  Take the weeks in the Marian month of October and explain in each bulletin: the history of our parish consecration, explain what this is, the kinds, provide a general Consecration Prayer for all to cut out and pray with their families, and provide information on personal consecrations via Maximilian Kolbe and Louis De Montfort. A wonderful way to honor our patroness, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and quickly bring many to know Jesus!

l        Need Father Warkulwiz's picture to go in the kiosks in the Gathering Space a couple of weeks prior to...

l        (Everything is about relationship with God and with each other. )

l        Seeds/articles for bulletin for Sign- up Weekend approved by Dave.

New Business:

A positive about our ministry:  Sally attended the Mission and Vision Seminar meeting (April 14) which focused on the 'call to evangelize' by way of our Mission Statement and Value Statements.

PEA is on the right track due to our interactive and expanded website, our attempt to get every adorer to invite a friend/aquaintance to try adoration, and the effort of visiting other parishes on Beechmont Ave. to recruit adorers and people to join the Rosary Rally.

Another support: We were told that Patrick Reis (Youth Minister) stood alone at the Men's CHRP this past weekend and invited/challenged others to join him as a committed adorer. Evidently, eight other men stood to join him! Definitely, Patrick was “living and sharing the Good News.”

“Closer relationship” with Worship Commission: Meeting of April 6, 2010... Sally Schroder attended with a message that PEA believes that together with Worship Commission, we can be so much more... (This does not preclude having a liaison, but is in addition to.) That we can learn from each other...as our Mission Statement says “live and share the Good news and grow in discipleship.” This came to Grace and Sally through prayer and a need for better communication between the two.

Sally handed out a card to each member to summarize how PEA sees this relationship with the acronym SAINTS: Share, Adore Our Lord in a committed hour if possible, Invite other commissions, ministries, and parishioners, Need the Holy Spirit, Trust in God's providence, and Support each other on the journey.

The Worship Commission sent a statement via email that they do support Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at Immaculate Heart of Mary and that they will each prayerfully discern as to committing to an hour of adoration.

Regarding the upcoming Sign-up Weekend June 5/6

PEA asked for:

Prayer support: A Prayer in front of the Hymnal so that all could pray for the success of Father Victor's invitation to all parishioners to spend a committed hour with Jesus.  The Commission offered a Petition to be read each weekend  as well as the actual weekend. [PEA core team will make some up and send to Sally.]

A full page spread article like for other important parish events to capture attention:  Candi Rinderle guided Sally to  Sean Ater who will put together the initial announcement in a smaller format and will also do social media postings.

An Announcement on the electronic sign.

Other:  Sally shared the content of bulletin articles about Sign Up weekend.  Some suggestions were offered... to add a few words to the “Ten Reasons”  article.

We know that when PEA began in 2004, the Holy Spirit  enlightened our parishioners to sign up. So,

Holy Spirit materials were purchased.  The book mark appealed to us and Jeanine voluntered to ask Dave Auxier about placing them in a basket(s) in the Gathering Space the weekend of Pentecost. (No cost to parish.) Other materials will be placed in the chapel and in the pamphlet area.

Grace and Sally discussed placing Holy Spirit prayers made from the 'card' that Linda Reekers made up for Worship Commission for each of our adorers to pray before Sign up weekend. (Sally will contact.)

Regarding decorations for special holidays in the chapel:  After some discussion, the PEA core team suggests beautiful roses to be placed at the foot of the tabernacle in a vase, provided by the parish art and environment ministry, to be removed after a few days.

                                    *********************************************

LOOKING FORWARD TO HUNDREDS OF SIGN UPS with the help of the Holy Spirit:

NEW INFORNATION:  Division Leader's, please ask your captains to set aside the following dates/times so that as many captains as possible will be available to meet the new adorers.... REALLY IMPORTANT to have face recognition. We will meet in Heritage Hall, both  East and West:

Wednesday, June 23rd at 7pm and  Sunday, June 27th at 7pm (changed from Father's Day)

Miscellaneous:

CANCELED: There will NOT be a Eucharistic Procession with the Immaculate Heart of Mary students after Mass on May 13, 2010 due to scheduling conflicts.

Idea: For Christmas and Easter, invite parishioners who work/are home with children/etc. and can't be regular adorers to surround Our Lord with love by signing up for an hour on the actual feast day.  Could have a sign up sheet or a special card to sign to Jesus.  (People are more apt to come when committed to a time.) Discussion around this topic. Will pray and discern when closer to Christmas.

l        Oral prayer:  New for May 20th:  Send suggestions. (not addressed)

l        We are looking for new captains for midnight and 8am. The DLs will take over temporarily. ( on hold until new adorers come on board.)

l        Next Meeting: Tuesday, May 18  (same day as Archbishop Schnurr's visit. )

For the Greater glory of God...  Thank you, all!
