ALTAR SERVERS
Contact: Deacon Dave Shaffer, 513-388-4466
Scheduling: Patti Mueller, 513-232-9469
In his address to a gathering of Altar Servers in 2001, Pope John Paul II said,
“Your commitment to the altar is not only a duty, but a great honor, a genuine holy service”, and he proposed that “the altar server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration. The altar server presents himself to a community and experiences firsthand that Jesus Christ is present and active in every liturgical act. Jesus is present when the community comes together to pray and render praise to God. Jesus is present in the Word of sacred Scripture. Jesus is present above all in the Eucharist under the signs of bread and wine. He acts through the priest who, in the person of Christ, celebrates the holy Mass and administers the sacraments. Therefore, in the liturgy, you are much more than simple ‘helpers of the parish priest.’ Above all, you are servers of Jesus Christ, of the eternal High Priest. Thus, you, altar servers, are called in particular to be young friends of Jesus.”
Altar Servers assist the presider during the celebration of the Mass, as well as assist the priest or deacon in the celebration of certain sacraments outside of Mass, or even assist in nonsacramental celebrations. At IHM, we allow male and female parishioners, grade 6 through adult, to train and be commissioned as Altar Servers. Altar Server training and commissioning are held each spring, usually in April. This is a great opportunity to become more active in our celebration of faith. Information to become an altar server is here.

It was created to transfer into the visible reality of the world, the mystery hidden since time immemorial in God, and thus to be a sign of it. Our Marriage Preparation team offers The Theology of the Body two weekends each year in conjunction with our Pre-Cana day. This year’s weekends are October 8-10, 2010 and May 20-22, 2011.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
Contact: Sean Ater, 513-388-4099
RCIA is the process by which individuals prepare for baptism and full initiation as Catholic Christians, or for full reception into the Catholic Church if already baptized. The process includes opportunities for learning about Catholicism, in a way that is non-threatening and in a manner that responds to each person’s questions. Interested individuals come first as “inquirers,” in a group with a leader who is prepared to answer initial questions and to help each person discern their readiness to enter the catechumenate (those actively preparing for initiation or for full reception). Following the period of inquiry, individuals who are ready commit to a period of formation which leads to full initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) or full reception into the Catholic Church (profession of faith, Confirmation & Eucharist). Initiation or reception into full communion is followed by a period of mystagogy, exploring the mysteries of the faith.
SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

Probably best recognized for our quarterly “5th Sunday Collections” and semi-annual “Bundle Sundays,” SVDP members act as stewards of the IHM parish community in its most versatile, year-round outreach ministry to parishioners (and non-parishioners residing within the parish boundaries) who find themselves in desperate situations with no where else to turn. Through a unique style of person-to-person assistance, SVDP helps individuals and families cope with financial (and related emotional) hardships caused by a temporary loss of income or unanticipated expenses. Recipients include persons on fixed incomes such as seniors and the disabled, single mothers or women who have been victimized in one way or another, struggling young families or those dealing with a significant illness of a family member, the unemployed, and many others. Forms of assistance include rent or temporary shelter, utilities, furniture, clothing, food, medical expenses, auto repair or fuel, etc. … basic needs that allow individuals and families to simply live normal lives, offered in a compassionate way that allows them to maintain their dignity and experience God’s loving care. Should you find yourself in need, feel at ease about contacting SVDP for assistance.

Immaculate Heart of Mary School, recognized as a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School in 2004, strives to offer a Christian education which includes teaching the message of Christ, building community and serving God, Church, and neighbor. Within this framework, the school directs each student toward the realization of his or her full potential, and the development of his or her relationship to God, neighbor and self. SHOP$MART for IHM (formerly ABC's for IHM)
Contact: Marge English, 513-831-8922
Shop$mart for IHM is a gift card/scrip program that raises revenue for the IHM Parish. Parishioners purchase gift cards/scrip for local and national retailers and use these gift cards instead of cash, check or credit card to pay for their purchases. Retailers rebate a percentage of each gift card to IHM. You receive the full monetary value of the gift card you purchase. Kroger and Meijer shoppers earn funds for the parish by participating in the Kroger Neighborhood Rewards program or the Meijer Community Rewards program. Special cards for these programs and gift cards for the other retailers can be obtained after all Masses in the Fatima Room or at the Parish Office. Yearly, these programs generate tens of thousands of dollars for the parish. Committee members are involved in the sale of gift cards to parishioners after the Masses, filling online orders or orders received from the Shop$mart hotline phone number. During the school year, members also fill orders from IHM school families on Thursday and Friday mornings. More information here.
